My whole life purity has been a struggle. Sexual desires are naturally hard to battle as they are. On top of that, everything surrounding me feeds that desire; music, social media, movies, the list goes on. God has called all of us to save sex for marriage and that is not an easy task! But it is not impossible. From life experiences, I have found that God commands us to do things for our own good, so that He can keep us safe and blessed. He is our creator. His understanding is far beyond ours, therefore he has a better understanding of what we need and don’t need.
I have always known that I was supposed to save sex for marriage. Up until this point, that has been my goal. The only problem with just saving sex, is that it leaves a whole lot of room for things to happen that make that goal extremely hard. That is where I have found myself recently. In this state there is no peace. I have just been teasing myself. I know that this doesn’t please God, and I know that there is more in store. So I have decided to start seeking a pure mind, that is where it all begins. Today I want to share the first lesson God has taught me about purity.
The first thing that we have to do in order to have a pure mind, is search for the Lord. 1 Chronicles 16:11-12 says it like this, “Search for the Lord and for his strength; continually seek him. Remember the wonders he has performed, his miracles, and the rulings he has given.” We have to intentionally search for God and His strength. We are fooling ourselves if we think we can achieve a pure mind on our own. What are we seeking? What are we focusing our energy towards? If we are thinking about lustful things, we will seek opportunities to fulfill those thoughts. If we seek them then we will most likely find them. If we focus on the things God has done for us and the things he has told us to do, we will find ourselves in His will. I don’t know about you, but that is where I want to be.
Later, in 1 Corinthians 16, King David says, “Give to the Lord the glory he deserves! Bring your offering and come into his presence. Worship the Lord in all his holy splendor.” God is worthy of our praise! He only wants what is best for us! He forgives us as many times as we mess up and he remembers that we are only dust! This journey of seeking a pure mind is going to come with some success and some failures. I am not able to do everything perfectly, but what I can do is make a consistent effort. I hope that you join me in this journey! I am excited to see what comes from this.
